We are one of six schools in the county that has a Communication and Interaction Resource Base (CAIRB). This is a unit within the school that provides a specialist education for children with significant Social Communication Difficulties (SLCN) such as Autism (ASC).
Children in the CAIRB are supported by a CAIRB teacher and experienced support staff and access mainstream teaching as much as is appropriate. The CAIRB also runs intervention activities that children can access alongside mainstream children who might also benefit from them. These activities include cooking, social skills and music. We also have a well-equipped sensory room, enabling the children to have a safe space to calm and self-regulate.
The CAIRB also offers outreach and training to local schools. This is done in partnership with the Devon Communication and Interaction Team.
