Community Rainbow Garden Club

A community garden where we help each other to grow fruit and vegetables. Everyone is encouraged to share their gardening knowledge and practical skills. All the food produced is given away free to garden helpers and visitors.

Devon County Council uses an SEND flag to list services which define themselves as suitable for children and young people with SEND. These are part of Devon's SEND Local Offer. We recommend that you contact the service provider to make sure the service is suitable for your child or young person.

General information

Everyone is welcome. There are jobs for all abilities, digging, weeding, grass cutting, sowing, transplanting, watering, mulching, pruning, arranging netting to deter birds, making slug traps, writing labels, making wind chimes and painting signs for the garden. Sometimes it is possible to just sit and chat and enjoy this beautiful Rainbow garden in the middle of the city.

We have an RHS level 3 qualified gardener, to help supervise sessions and maintain and select produce to sow, grow and harvest. We have espalier pear trees, a peach, vines, rhubarb, strawberries, raspberries, gooseberry and blackcurrant bushes. Each year we also plant a selection of vegetables in the borders and raised beds. We also make our own compost and have two water butts.
