Wings South West

Wings South West is a Registered Charity and a Company limited by guarantee that was set up in October 2000 to help provide for young people in Bideford and the surrounding area of Northern Devon.

Our aim is to give young people a future and a hope.

Wings is multi-faceted organisation.  We work in a number of different areas:

  • A very successful project for those with additional needs.  This comprises of two day-time UNITY groups for those 16 years old plus and a UNITY YOUTHIE for those under 16 years old,
  • Youth clubs for those in year 7 and above, two nights a week
  • Motor Mechanics groups TRAX.
  • The new NORTH DEVON COASTAL ACADEMY which launched in September 2017.  This is a post 16 education facility, run in partnership with Petroc, and provides opportunities to learn occupational studies, functional Skills Math and English with the opportunity to do a GCSE in Maths or English
  • A Young parents group for those who are 25 years and under with pre-school aged children.
  • Access to professionally qualified counsellors.

Within each of these groups are the opportunities to access the facilities we have for Sports, crossfit, surfing, cycling, canoeing, digital music, animation, woodwork, mechanics and horticulture in the new garden area at the Lendon Barn Site.

We encourage volunteering amongst young people including those who face disadvantages.

Wings is a faith based organisation. We recognise that there are times when it is appropriate to share our Christian faith and times when it is not. We therefore operate a parallel lines policy and talk about faith when young people are expecting us to and have chosen to take part. At all other times we do not! The increasing number of individuals and organisations that we work with of all faiths or none, is testimony that this approach is open, transparent and effective.
